With over 50 branches nationwide, Selco Builders Warehouse has been supporting tradespeople since 1895.
Every branch operates its own delivery fleet, with vehicles ranging from 3.5-tonne vans to 26-tonne HGVs. Covering diverse delivery routes and site conditions, Selco needed a reliable wheel safety system.
Their Challenge
Selco maintained strong transport safety standards and used traditional wheel nut indicators across its fleet. However, they continued to face issues that increased cost and risk during operations, such as:
Lost Indicators - Standard wheel nut indicators were frequently lost during kerbside deliveries.
No Retention - Existing products gave a visual indication only, with no retention if a nut loosened while driving.
Fleet Consistency - The addition of hire fleet trailers and 5-stud plant vehicles made it difficult to maintain a standardised safety approach.
Cost & Durability - Frequent replacements were costly and inefficient.
Selco’s transport team recognised that the existing system wasn’t delivering the reliability or lifespan they needed, and sought a longer-lasting, more cost-effective solution.
This is when they turned to MAXA...
The Discovery
MAXA first connected with Selco’s transport team at the CV Show, where discussions began around improving wheel safety for their expanding hire fleet.
After seeing demonstrations, the clear benefits of its durability, retention capability, and simple fitting led Selco to specify WheelSentry® as part of their standard vehicle build.
The MAXA Solution
To meet Selco’s needs, WheelSentry® Standard and Low Profile indicator and retainer systems are now fitted as standard across all new vehicles and plant, offering:
Kerb-Resistant Design - Tougher build, less prone to damage from kerb contact.
Universal Fit - Works across all vehicle types, from 3.5 tonne vans to 26 tonne trucks and plant trailers.
Combined Functionality - Offers both visual indication and wheel nut retention in one product.
Longer Lifespan - Designed to reduce replacements and ongoing maintenance costs.
The Outcome
WheelSentry® is now part of Selco’s standard vehicle specification, with Guest Trucks fitting the system to all new vehicles as they enter the fleet. Alongside this, a rolling retrofit programme is underway across existing depots to ensure full fleet coverage.
WheelSentry® has delivered tangible benefits to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and give the transport team confidence that their vehicles are protected.
A Few Words From Selco...
“After using the bog standard industry wheel nut indicators and spending a fortune on replacements when they get knocked off, we met the guys at the CV Show, and after the demonstration, this seemed a no-brainer. We are fitting these to all our new fleet, and so far not one has fallen off. Wheel Sentry® is definitely the way forward. ”
